Substance Abuse Clients Experience Metamorphosis First Hand

For several years, the clients at Great Lakes Recovery Centers Youth Services have been rearing Monarch butterfly eggs and larvae. Watching the metamorphosis from egg to butterfly offers a rewarding and beautiful experience. The process lends itself to many metaphors for recovery. More information can be found here.

Items needed for Benefit Rummage Sale

As you may or may not be aware, our transporter, Bruce B. has spent the better part of the last year undergoing medical care downstate. Bruce is, as a result, experiencing very serious financial difficulties. He is presently struggling with even being able to cover the cost of his medicines. GLRC Youth Services wants to plan a Rummage Sale in order to assist Bruce with some of his expenses. This email is being sent to all GLRC employees in hopes that you might have items you would like to donate for the sale. Those items can be dropped off at Youth Services anytime, Monday through Friday, to the attention of Patty. Please no clothing! Items might include furniture, lamps, dishes, pictures, jewelry, books, yard tools, tools, kitchen supplies, sheets, towels, tablecloths, and whatever other household or camping items you might be willing to part with. The sale will not take place until the end of July, so there is time for you all to research your treasure troves and get your stuff to me.

If you have any questions please contact Patty at (906) 228-4692 Ext. 12. or you may email Patty at pholman@glrc.biz.

Thank you so very much on behalf of GLRC Youth, Bruce, and all those who care about him.

Youth Bridges Releasing Celebration

Roughly twenty seniors and youth clientele participated in the event that involved two weeks of preparation. In the sessions preceding the celebration the two groups worked together to make carefully crafted miniature baskets. The baskets symbolically would hold any pent up emotion that had held them down. More information can be found here.

14th Annual mini R.O.A.D. Day

A group of seniors and youth worked together over the past few months to put together a day of games and celebration that took place recently at Great Lakes Recovery Center’s (GLRC) 14th Annual mini R.O.A.D. Day .  Smiles and laughter were present wherever you looked at the First United Methodist Church of Marquette.  The kids from GLRC’s Youth Services hosted games that the two groups had spent weeks preparing together as part of the GLRC Bridges Program.  Activities included a ring toss, bingo, a number wheel, bean bag toss, and blinko, among others, all in an effort to find a common thread of humanity. More information can be found here.

National Alcohol Awareness Month With GLRC

April is National Alcohol Awareness Month and GLRC is helping to spread the word. We will be celebrating National Alcohol Screening Day April 11th by providing free alcohol screenings. Anyone can have a screening completed by either coming to Westwood Mall in Marquette from 10am to 6pm where we will have an information booth set up or by calling our Marquette Outpatient office at 228-6545, or toll free at 1-888-GLRC-REC (1-888-457-2732).

ECONO FOODS – WE SHARE PROGRAM

We are pleased to announce that GLRC will partner with Econo Foods in participating in the We Share Program. This program allows each Econo Foods store to donate 1% of all Econo Foods receipts collected by GLRC to be donated to the agency. Currently Econo Foods has stores in Marquette and Iron Mountain that match our service areas. We are looking for your support in collection of as many receipts as possible.  We are striving for a goal of total receipts equaling $1,000,000 over the next year. That would equate to a $10,000 donation for the agency.
